    Job Description

SENIOR DIRECTOR FOR FINANCE, Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), to serve as OVPR’s chief financial officer. Will provide strategic counsel to the VPR and support the research enterprise at MIT by providing expertise, leadership, and overall management of the financial and research administration functions under the VPR; provide broad oversight to space assigned to VPR labs and centers to address operational needs and priorities; align financial and research administration strategies with the mission of the VPR; serve in an Institute-wide capacity, providing guidance and input on policies, issues and projects that impact the research enterprise; and perform a wide variety of financial duties in support of sponsored research programs that advance VPR and Institute goals. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; and at least ten years of progressively responsible financial management experience in a university or research organization setting that included budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting; pre- and post-award research administration; nonprofit accounting procedures; and financial analysis techniques. Must have demonstrated knowledge of the operations of complex research universities or research organizations; broad knowledge and understanding of uniform guidance and federal regulations; diplomacy and discretion; and excellent active listening and written and verbal communication skills. Should also be able to lead and manage a wide variety of responsibilities in multiple functions in a fast-paced and dynamic organization. PREFERRED: advanced degree and familiarity and experience with MIT systems, tools, financial processes, and budgeting procedures.
