  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to multi-task in a small team.

  • The candidate should be flexible to work with colleagues in different time zones.

  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and follow-through are essential.

  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.

Additional Information:

This will be an international position, based in LMSAI office in Delhi, India, and employed by Harvard Global Research Support Center, India - an affiliate of Harvard University or by another affiliate of Harvard University. In order to be considered for this position, candidates must be authorized to work in India.

This is a part-time (20 hours per week), one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support.

Under the direction of the India Associate Country Director of LMSAI, the Research Manager, Arts Program (MCH) will be responsible for following roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist with the India operation of the Mapping Color in History (MCH) project

  • Reach out and help connect with new institutions / conservators interested in conducting pigment analysis research;

  • Oversee the safe transfer and receipt of equipment for collaboration with new institutions;

  • Oversee and conduct documentation and analytical research on-site on the collections of collaborating institutions in India;

  • Refine the analysis workflow depending on the on-site setting and facilities available at the collaborating institution;

  • Refine the workflow documentation templates for each institution in consultation with Dr. Jinah Kim, Dr. Michele Derrick and the on-site collaborating institution staff;

  • Coordinate borrowing / renting of equipment from institutions, if and where required

  • Help organize the analytical data for the MCH database;

  • Prepare manuscript / artwork condition reports to share with the collaborating institution;

  • Prepare analytical reports using the MCH templates following the guidelines to share with the collaborating institutions

  • Undertake rehousing of collections if requested by the collaborating institution

  • Resolve equipment related operational issues and advice on further equipment and/or accessories to be

purchased for the MCH mobile lab

  • Conduct equipment demo sessions for collaborating institutions

  • Help with training RAs

  • Assist with the pigment sample collection from living artisans and artisan groups, on site documentation of the contemporary pigment production processes being used and help with information required for analysis at Harvard Art Museum
