    Job Description

REGISTRAR AND MANAGER, COLLECTIONS, List Visual Arts Center, to serve as the primary custodian of the Institute’s three distinct permanent collections of contemporary and modern art. This highly independent role manages inventory and active loans in a digital collection management database; arranges and coordinates the shipping, conservation, framing, packing, and insurance for all artworks from the collection and that which is on loan for exhibition; directs storage and logistics; handles image licensing and rights where required; monitors conditions, ensures safety, and assesses/arranges conservation needs; oversees insurance and updates valuations as needed; manages related conservation budgets; accessions new works; liaises with MIT Facilities and supervises technicians or contractors hired for maintenance or conservation as needed; and provides supervision of a campus collections preparator and contracted installation staff. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least four years’ experience in art museum or gallery registration and/or collections management; ability to manage multiple projects at once; knowledge of collections management best practices; detail-orientation; ability to handle issues with diplomacy and confidentiality; a flexible approach to problem solving; excellent condition reporting and email and telephone communication skills; and proficiency with computers. A team player with comprehensive knowledge of exemplary museum registration methods would be well suited working in this university art gallery environment with a small staff. Job #24264-7 7/29/24
