The Pricing Lab at the Digital Data Design (D^3) Institute at Harvard is accepting applications for a macro postdoctoral fellow for academic year 2025-2026 to work on research activities. Position Overview: The postdoctoral fellow will work under the supervision of Professor Alberto Cavallo and collaborate closely with the lab director and research assistants. This position does not have teaching responsibilities, allowing the fellow to focus fully on research.
The Pricing Lab’s mission is to advance the understanding of firm-level pricing decisions, pricing capabilities, and the broader macroeconomic impacts on inflation dynamics. The lab leverages access to large proprietary datasets provided by collaborating companies, offering unique opportunities to analyze real-world pricing strategies and their economic implications. This collaboration enables groundbreaking research into pricing practices, capabilities, and innovations across industries.
We are seeking candidates with a keen interest in policy-relevant research and proficiency in working with data. Ideal candidates will have a passion for exploring questions at the frontier of data science and empirical macroeconomics, leveraging advanced analytical techniques and large-scale datasets to generate impactful insights. The position offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects that intersect macroeconomic theory, data engineering, and empirical research.
Responsibilities:
Refining research questions and developing methodologies to measure economic phenomena.
Conducting econometric analyses, including historical and experimental data studies.
Writing and preparing research for submission to top peer-reviewed economics journals.
Overseeing and coordinating the activities of research assistants to ensure project goals are met efficiently and effectively
Collaborating with partner organizations or companies as needed.
Basic Qualifications
A Ph.D. in economics. All degree requirements must be satisfied prior to the fellowship start date.
PLEASE NOTE : If you have obtained your Ph.D. in the past 12 months you must be able to provide a certificate of completion from the degree-granting institution OR a letter from the institution’s Registrar stating all requirements for the degree have been successfully completed and should verify the date the degree has been conferred. No exceptions.
Additional Qualifications
Macroeconomic theory related to pricing.
Programming and scripting for large-scale data processing.
Proficiency in statistical computing environments such as Stata or Python.

Additional Information:
These are term positions starting July 2025 (start date flexible) through June 30, 2026, with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance. Relocation funding not provided.
This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
