POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI)-Mining, Minerals and the Environment, to join ESI (https://environmentalsolutions.mit.edu/) , an Institute-wide effort to enlist and mobilize MIT’s substantial scientific, engineering, policy, and design capacity to address climate change and other environmental challenges. Mining and Minerals (https://environmentalsolutions.mit.edu/metals-minerals-the-environment-program/) is one of ESI’s areas of focus due to its opportunity to embrace sustainability. Will collaborate on identifying relevant topics related to sustainable development of the mining sector and develop innovative ways to share this information with industry/academia/other stakeholders; develop and facilitate educational content that advances the knowledge of sustainability practices in the mining sector for mining professionals and students engaged in an ongoing certificate program, extend this program to other mining and minerals companies, and identify and develop sponsored-research opportunities resulting from the program; mentor students; contribute to developing student assessment metrics; recruit experts to provide educational materials on sustainable practices/technologies relative to the mining sector; create, support, and disseminate knowledge in sustainability practices in the mining sector; participate in sponsor webinars/meetings; contribute to publications/newsletters; and perform other duties as needed.
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in a technical area related to environment or industry; experience in industry, sustainability, innovation, and/or technology; experience developing and leading engaging, innovative coursework; excellent leadership, project management, strategic thinking, organizational, relationship management, and written and verbal communication and presentation skills; and self-motivation. Must be able to keep projects/deliverables on track, evaluating and revising as needed; manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high quality results; and promote collaboration and cooperation. PREFERRED: experience with/knowledge of the extractives sector, experience with online education, interest in topics related to environmental and social sustainability, and experience presenting to diverse audiences.
