Posting Description
OMBUDSPERSON, Office of the President, to serve as an independent, informal, impartial, and confidential conflict management resource for all members of the MIT community; advocate for fair processes, the administration of those processes, and the respectful treatment of all members of the MIT community; provide constructive conflict management coaching to address academic workplace and Institute-related issues and concerns and explore options for resolution; identify systemic issues and ideas that improve efficiency and efficacy; foster and facilitate communications among individuals using problem-solving techniques; help individuals deal with matters directly; facilitate group meetings, shuttle diplomacy, and mediation; participate in strategic planning and program development for the office; design and conduct conflict management skills training for members of the MIT community; and review and analyze patterns of conflict and provide feedback and recommendations for policies or practices. The MIT Ombuds Office operates with two full-time ombudspersons who manage the office as a team and serve the entire Institute community and operates in accordance with the International Ombuds Association Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Master’s degree in a related field; a minimum of seven years combined experience in conflict management, dispute resolution, organizational development, or as an organizational ombudsperson; proven discretion and demonstrated ability in personal communications, presentations, and writing; and ability to work effectively with people at all levels of an organization and from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. PREFERRED: Experience in an academic environment; as an impartial complaint handler and experience with scientific and technical professionals. Job #24780-13
