HealthFitness Manager on Duty (on-site at Harvard Rec) in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Harvard Recreation, managed by HealthFitness, is looking for a full-time Manager on Duty/Shift Manager to work on a collaborative team and assist with the fitness center oversight at our on-campus facilities in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Manager on Duty, Cambridge, MA

Full-time with PTO & benefits, 30-40 hours per week

As MOD, you'll help manage the campus recreation facilities alongside our Management Team. At times, you will serve as the acting manager and will be responsible for the operations of the facility in its entirety including shift accountability. Work shifts: Wednesday-Friday evenings (4-11PM), Saturdays and Sundays (mornings and/or evenings, 6-hour shifts)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Enforcement and completion of the new Harvard Recreation performance review system which gives the management team insight into how the Harvard Recreation Front Desk staff is performing while on shift. Full-time MOD must be up to date with Front Desk Staff guidelines, expectations, and procedures to file performance reports and also build meaningful relationships with colleagues to ensure minimal interruptions in staff efficiency.

  • On-site assistance with facility oversight and operations to provide efficient upkeep of the three Harvard Recreation buildings. Identify needs and communicate with the Associate Director of Facilities & Operations to submit work orders, filing the necessary information on the Operations Communications Log, and determining when to get in contact with Harvard Control Center for immediate response while maintaining a constant physical presence within the facility.

  • Support the Assistant Director of Facility Operations with onboarding of Harvard Recreation RCS staff, including leading training sessions, leading shift shadowing sessions and participating in RCS job interviews.

  • Work in a heavy customer facing role, while serving as Membership Office Attendant in the event of immediate needed coverage.

  • Responsible for safety and well-being of all guests, visitors and Harvard Rec members who utilize the facilities, including responding to sudden medical emergencies and providing proper CPR/AED and First Aid care.

  • The MOD provides needed leadership and presence for 50+ Harvard Recreation staff in the absence of the direct area manager. We require our MODs to have outstanding interpersonal skills to drive member retention and meaningful customer service, while also having the ability to work in a team setting in a fast-paced environment. Must have experience and ability with computers, including learning new computer applications and skills to troubleshoot on the go.

  • Other duties as needed/assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED and 2+ years of in person customer service experience.

  • Adult CPR/AED/First Aid certification from American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety & Health Institute required within 90 days of hire. (Can train onsite)

  • Strong interpersonal, accountability and customer service skills.

  • Basic computer skills (word, excel, outlook etc.) and working knowledge of a member management/point of sale system. Ability to navigate electronic onboarding and timecard systems required.

Compensation: $21/hour. Pay is dependent on qualifications and experience.
