Position Description

The Institute Fellow will be working under the guidance of Prof. Peter Bol helping to manage the China Biographical Database project and conducting independent research on digital humanities topics most relevant to Chinese studies. The Fellow should have scholarly knowledge of some field of Chinese history or literature and expertise in some field of the Digital Humanities for Chinese studies. Fluency in both Chinese and English is required. In addition to research s/he will work to create greater online collaborations with centers for Chinese studies around the world and offer instruction, training, and support for Harvard students and faculty. Candidate must hold an advanced degree.

This is a two-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.

Basic Qualifications

Must have scholarly knowledge of some field of Chinese history or literature and expertise in some field of the Digital Humanities for Chinese studies.

Fluency in both Chinese and English is required.

Must hold an advanced degree.

Additional Qualifications

Experience in using the China Biographical Database for statistical, spatial, and network analysis.

Competence in writing Python and the application of BERT to Chinese texts.

Conversant with MS Access, Virtual Basic, and SQL .
