We are seeking a Quantitative Associate Analyst with data research experience who is interested in pursuing a quantitative research career supporting social science research, particularly health-related topics. Proficiency in SAS, Stata, or an equivalent software package is required, and working knowledge of additional languages is a plus. The position will include supporting several ongoing projects, leading tasks under the oversight of substantive experts, and research leads.

Work in the Division of Health and Environment helps shape federal policy, while improving program efficiency and effectiveness. Federal government agencies, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and more, call on us to conduct policy-driven research and evaluate their key programs.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Investigate data for validity and completeness

  • Clean, harmonize, and link raw data to create analysis datasets

  • Collaborate with senior data leads and substantive experts to propose and create measures appropriate for analysis

  • Create data documentation that may be used by other data analysts

  • Provide mentorship and critical feedback to early career quantitative staff

  • Craft clear write-ups in support of data activities that can be readily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences, including client-facing communications

  • Perform moderately complex analytic tasks

  • Independently investigate data issues and collaborate with senior project managers on solutions

  • Perform multiple routine to moderately complex tasks

Preferred Skills/Prerequisites

  • Managing large projects or processes with limited oversight from manager.

  • Coaching, reviewing and delegating work to lower level professionals.

  • Problems faced are difficult and often complex.

  • Represents organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects.

  • Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

  • Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs. Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.

  • Proficient in a statistical or data manipulation software package. SAS or Stata preferred, but proficiency with similar software such as SQL or R a plus.

  • Ability to independently work on multiple types of internal and external analytic systems under a variety of operating systems

  • Conducts research with attention to detail

  • Demonstrated capabilities in managing project tasks and budgets

  • Technical expertise and supervisory/staff development skills strongly preferred

  • Works effectively on teams

  • Knowledge of and interest in research of health services, public health, or behavioral health programs and policies a plus

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree + Seven years of relevant experience, or PhD + Four years of relevant experience
