    Job Description

FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATOR 3, SPONSORED ACCOUNTING, Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP), to administer complex financial operations related to sponsored research and other sponsored projects, including all pre- and post-award activities associated with federal, industry, and foundation grants and contracts. Responsibilities include managing the pre-award administration of grants/contracts, including reviewing solicitations and advising principal investigators (PIs) on proposal requirements; organizing and preparing multi-PI and/or multi-unit proposals; managing proposal requirements (e.g., cost sharing, sub-recipients, underrecovery, etc.); managing pre-award communications with non-federal sponsors and serving as liaison to MIT’s International Coordinating Committee, OSATT, and RAS; managing post-award activities, including tracking and monitoring the financial performance of grants and contracts to ensure compliance with sponsors and MIT policies/procedures; interpreting MIT, federal, and other sponsor’s policies (e.g., Cost Accounting Standards, OMB circulars); and monitoring budget versus actual spending and preparing projections for PIs. In addition to individual grants and contracts, will also manage complex consortium funding for a busy lab; manage sponsored project audits, no-cost extensions, and closeouts including interim and final reports; recommend and implement improvements to internal processes/procedures and provide input into development of strategic goals regarding all aspects of sponsored project administration; and perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; five year’s accounting/finance experience; strong interpersonal communication, analytical, and organizational skills; and discretion and judgment with confidential/sensitive information. Must be able to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines; learn changing technologies related to grants and contracts management; work with faculty, staff, and students across MIT; and work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. PREFERRED: experience with research administration, higher education finance, and/or administering projects/programs/processes; and MIT experience.
