Sense Director of ML Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Sense was founded in 2013 by pioneers in speech recognition technologies. This background provides the team with the intuition needed to connect and unlock key data significance relating to home energy efficiency. Sense uses machine learning technology to provide real-time insights on device behavior. Customers rely on Sense for a wide range of uses including monitoring their home appliances, determining whether they left appliances running, and identifying how to reduce their energy costs.
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Technology to manage our Data Science team, which is responsible for the development and enhancement of Sense’s industry-leading device disaggregation technology. This role encompasses the whole ML Ops lifecycle, from data, modeling, and software to production DevOps.
Responsibilities
Manage and inspire the team to build and deploy machine learning models, fostering a mindset of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.
Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to determine priorities, manage resource allocation, timelines, and tradeoffs, and identify and mitigate risks.
Develop and operationalize metrics that assess model quality. Collaborate with Product to link these to user experience.
Shepherd continuous investment in infrastructure and tooling, including ground truth and data acquisition pipelines.
Drive cost, scalability, and reliability optimization of production modeling pipelines.
Stay current with emerging trends and champion best practices in process and technology.
Exemplify and cultivate our collaborative and inclusive work culture, including through recruitment and onboarding of great candidates.
Requirements
3-5 years in a director role
15+ years experience, including time at growth-stage startups
Hands-on experience as a data scientist
Authorized to work in the US
