Cambridge Mobile Telematics Developer Advocate in Cambridge, Massachusetts

CMT is looking for a Developer Advocate to join us in helping people become safer drivers.

CMT’s customers around the world add safe-driving features to their own mobile applications by integrating the CMT Mobile SDK. The mission of this Developer Advocate in the Mobile Engineering group is to make their integration of CMT’s technology as fast and seamless as possible.

This is a great opportunity for a growth-oriented individual: this function of the company grows every year because of both our growing customer base and the increasing complexity of the world of mobile software. There is both reactive and proactive work to be done. Your success in this role will have a direct impact on the growth of CMT’s business by accelerating adoption of the Mobile SDK and by solving problems raised by app developers integrating the SDK.

Communication is key in this role. Sometimes you’ll need to read code alongside our customers’ engineers to solve a problem. To get up to speed, you’ll need to learn from and work with teammates in Engineering, Technical Support, Program Management, Product Management, and Customer Success - all of whom will work to put you in the best position to succeed. Your manager in this role has been on both sides of the integration experience, previously as a customer and now as a Mobile SDK engineer. This full-time role is based in our Cambridge, MA office in Kendall Square, but most employees are currently remote.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly triage and diagnose issues reported by mobile developers who use the CMT Mobile SDK in their mobile applications

  • Guide mobile developers to solutions through writing documentation and occasionally video conferencing with customers’ engineering teams

  • Collaborate with other CMT engineers on bug fixes and improvements to the CMT Mobile SDK for Android or iOS, sometimes writing the code yourself

  • Write sample code for Android and iOS that demonstrates how to use the CMT Mobile SDK in native and potentially cross-platform languages

  • Make recommendations to our customers on how to handle OS updates and policy changes from Apple and Google

  • Proactively monitor bugs and crashes in beta and production releases

  • Advocate for mobile developers of CMT customers in product development meetings with product managers and other engineers

  • Learn more about machine learning, AI, big data, telematics, IoT, and mobile technologies in a practical environment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar technical field of study

  • 2 or more years of experience working in software development

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities for diagnosing complex issues

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable working independently

  • Strong code comprehension skills; able to quickly understand other people’s code

  • Enjoys solving customer issues and comfortable participating in meetings with customers

Nice to have

  • Experience working on a widely-used software product, ideally an SDK, mobile, or IoT product

  • Experience working with customer success, program management, or sales teams

  • Familiarity with Java, Kotlin, Objective-C, and/or Swift

  • Familiarity with development tools and platforms like Android Studio, Xcode, Visual Studio Code (VSCode), Gradle, Cocoapods, Google Play Store, and/or App Store

  • Familiarity with crash and bug reporting tools like Firebase Crashlytics

  • Knowledge of a cross-platform mobile framework such as React Native, Flutter, Cordova, Xamarin, Ionic

  • Ability to work on-site occasionally, when covid safe
