At STM Journals, we collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. In support of our portfolio of 2700+ hybrid and open access scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and fostering equitable participation in publishing.

About the Role

The Deputy Production Editor works with their Production Editors to oversee the operational activities of running a journal, or journals. Accurately preparing material for electronic and print production and adhering to strict deadline and publication schedules. Acting as a primary post-acceptance contact for authors and guides authors through the publication process. Providing exceptional customer service, accommodating queries and special requests, and liaising with editors and the printer as needed.

This role can be performed anywhere within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling articles

  • Managing online publication activities

  • Performing copyediting and monitor the quality and quantity of copyedited material

  • Producing cover designs and advertising layouts as needed

  • Adhering to style, standards, and schedules

  • Managing journal deadlines and address supplier and editorial queries

  • Providing exceptional customer service to authors and readers; display hospitality in all internal and external interactions

  • Participating in at least one department-wide or Cell Press-wide project or committee

Requirements

  • Able to copyedit and/or perform quality control on freelance-copyedited work in the range of 20-30 points per week. (With a weekly average of at least 25 points).

  • Demonstrate expertise in all journal styles and workflows. Including ability to act in support of multiple Production Editors in core journal-management responsibilities. supporting various journals in all of the key administrative and journal-management procedures.

  • Be an active in skill-and expertise-building initiatives, such as department learning & development programs and online training courses.

  • Be proficient in the use of Office, MLiFlow-TUD, Adobe, Proof Central, and PTS (basic level).

  • Able to conduct training and onboarding activities.
