Position Description:The Data Analyst is a strategic partner in the effort to continually engage a broad audience of Harvard Alumni, donors, and community members in digital and physical space. You will collaborate with the technical, creative, and business teams to shape and execute the marketing and digital engagement strategies that drive a fulfilling Alumni Experience. In addition, you will provide analysis on in-person events and programing, often connecting how marketing and digital strategies are driving real world engagement. The right candidate will have a strong grasp of web analytics and digital strategy, as well as experience working with more traditional alumni, donor, or constituent data.

  • Develops strong relationships with Harvard Alumni Association and other front line-teams and delivers analysis to help them achieve their engagement goals.

  • Creates compelling visual presentations for internal and external audiences.

  • Keeps abreast of engagement programing, activities & events, and helps program managers develop consistent program metrics and goals.

  • Collaborates with peers on email strategy, communications, operations, and information systems to ensure practices implemented for coding and tracking engagement activities align with goals for consistent, comprehensive engagement metrics.

  • Analyzes email marketing data to identify key segments, messages or voices that drive engagement with content.

  • Gathers, structures, and analyzes website and application data to derive compelling audience insights that drive the optimization of AA&D online initiatives.

  • Synthesizes information about digital engagement with data from full scope of AA&D activities (Reunions, networking events, etc.) to develop a multi-dimensional understanding of Alumni engagement.

  • Develops a deep understanding of data within the primary advancement database and the network of surrounding systems.

  • Write simple SQL queries to retrieve data from systems, while also having access to data engineers/developers to provide more complex data sets for analysis.

  • Collaborates with BI Developers to create and deliver reports and dashboards that monitor the health and performance of engagement programs.

  • Understands all aspects of Google Analytics implementation and stays abreast of changes in web analytics technology landscape. Communicates how changes in technologies may impact current analytics to key stakeholders.

  • Proactively keeps up to date on functional and security developments in major email clients and browsers that may impact our ability to collect and analyze digital trends and recommends alternative metrics when necessary.

  • Writes narrative companions providing context to metrics and trends.

  • Adheres to key departmental procedures, organizational policies and practices for project management, version controls and documentation.

  • Owns and executes additional projects as assigned, in keeping with the level and responsibilities of the role.
