    Job Description

COMMUNICATION LECTURER/COMMUNICATION LAB MANAGER, Biological Engineering (BE), to lead the BE Communication Lab (https://mitcommlab.mit.edu/be/) , a peer-coaching organization that helps students learn to write, speak, and design visuals more effectively. Will support the department’s communication-intensive classes (https://catalog.mit.edu/subjects/20/) , including 20.109 and 20.380, and other communication-related educational activities; and lead the lab in collaboration with the communication fellows. Will collaborate on supporting the vertically integrated communication curriculum, bring curricular advances into the BE community, and design and enhance initiatives to meet the community’s needs by being a leader in the science communication and education fields. Responsibilities include educational design and instruction for communication needs, managing a team of communication fellows (graduate student and postdoc peer coaches), strategy/outreach, and administration. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master’s degree in a STEM field or a related discipline; at least two years’ teaching experience using best practices for teaching communication, STEM content, and related areas; experience with educational design of resources such as workshops and rubrics; excellent interpersonal and technical and academic communication (oral, written, and visual design) skills; experience with program building and organizational strategy; ability to solve problems, analyze data to inform decision-making, and create connections between people and organizations in order to optimize student support and departmental goals; people and project management skills; keen attention to detail; ability to manage multiple long-term deadlines simultaneously; ability to receive and give constructive feedback to students/peers; ability to interact effectively with faculty, students, and administrative staff; team player; and supervisory experience, specifically with students. PREFERRED: Ph.D. in biological engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related STEM field; and teaching experience.
