At least two years professional experience in teaching Classics or working in an academic library.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Experience in digital library projects and/or collection development. ALA accredited master’s degree in library science/information science; a concentration in academic librarianship is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and collegially with others, including post-doctoral scholars, graduate students, undergraduate students, and other CHS and Harvard staff members.

Acquisitions: Directs collection development and acquisitions for the CHS library’s monographic series and monographs in various formats, including print and electronic.

Acquires materials in relevant languages worldwide and ensures that the collection covers developments in the scholarship according to the mission of the Center.

Advises and participates in the selection of journals for the library collection.

Oversees and contributes to library technical services related to acquisitions.

Strategic Planning: Collaborates with Center leadership to develop and implement a strategic plan for the integration of information technology and electronic resources into library operations. Collaborates on Center-led digital projects as necessary and appropriate.

Digital Resource Management: Responsible for managing digital resources, including digital rights management, subscriptions to digital databases, and ensuring access to electronic journals and e-books.

Preservation and Archiving: Oversees collection’s preservation and archiving, emphasizing both physical and digital preservation strategies to maintain and protect library resources.

Reporting and Analytics: Oversees comprehensive reporting on library usage statistics and service effectiveness using advanced data analytics tools to guide strategic decisions.

Library User and Visitor Relations: Provides reference and other subject-related patron assistance to CHS Fellows and library users. Maintains visitor and registration records. Conducts orientations/tours of the library and provides information concerning the library and its resources as needed. Maintains feedback mechanism. Develops strategy to enhances user engagement.

Community Relations: Contributes to development of community outreach programs in collaboration with other teams with the Center.

Accessibility Improvements: Develops services and resources to enhance accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities.

Staff Management: Supervises library staff of one 100% FTE and one 50% FTE. Responsible for fostering professional development opportunities for library staff, including training in new technologies, attendance at workshops, and participation in professional library associations.

Other duties: Maintains and reports on CHS library statistics as appropriate. Conducts official library correspondence as required.

The holder of this position will contribute to the research and educational mission of the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies by shaping and managing the resources collection of the CHS library, which includes 75,000 print volumes and an array of digital resources. The library supports advanced research in all aspects of Ancient Hellenic Civilization and in many aspects of Classical Studies generally. The position thus requires a broad knowledge of these fields as well as competence in the field of academic librarianship.
