CATHERIZATION LAB TECH

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

Orients new staff as needed.

Collaborates with Manager and Assistant Manager for the coordination of both new and ongoing educational in-services as needed

Maintains inventory of all procedural equipment in Cath Lab, EP Lab, and any shared equipment in the CVOR.

Collaborates with Materials Distribution (Materials Management/Supply Chain) and Purchasing staff to ensure adequate inventory as needed

Acquires/maintains knowledge and supports charging of supplies to patient accounts as required by Revenue Cycle workflows and coding regulations

Collaborates with the Manager and Assistant Manager to ensure adequate technologist staffing coverage.

Collaborates with Information Sciences (IS) Department and vendors to ensure continuity of patient care platforms within Cardiology (CardioLab, Xper, Xcelera, etc).

Collaborrates with Manager and Assistant Manager for completion of PCI database information for quaterly quality assurance reviews

Provides competent compassionate care based on scientific principles

Cares for patients undergoing invasive and non-invasive procedures in the Department(s): Cath Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, and CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room)

Monitors both invasive and non-invasive hemodynamics during procedures and reports changes to the primary nurse and/or attending physician.

Recognizes changes in patient status and reports to primary nurse and/or attending physician

Provides necessary interventions to/for the patient as allowed by state regulations and by the direction of the attending physician.

Acquires/maintains competency in radiation safety principles

Acquires/maintains competency in specialized Interventional Cardiology equipment

Collaborates with physicians, registered nurses, other technologists, and perfusionists regarding individualized patient plan of care

Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment

Good interpersonal and communication skills

Acquires/maintains competency in use of the electronic medical record

Collaborates with various departments to ensure continuity of care: Emergency Department, SICU/MICU, CVOR, Perfusion, Echo Lab, Anesthesia, PACU, etc.

Performs all other duties as assigned

Cath Lab Primary Responsibilities:

Acquires/maintains competency in all diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures done at Mount Auburn Hospital.

Acquires/maintains competency in hemodynamic interpretation

Acquires/maintains competency in various procedure room roles as needed for the department (circulating, monitoring, and/or scrubbing)

Available to be on-call on a rotating basis as assigned by the department needs. On-call response time is 30 minutes or less.

Acquires/maintains competency in resuscitation teamwork

Acquires/maintains competency in the care of mechanical circulatory support patients (IABP, Impella, and ECMO)

EP (Electrophysiology) Lab Primary Responsibilities:

Acquires/maintains competency in all diagnostic and interventional EP procedures done at Mount Auburn Hospital.

Acquires/maintains competency in cardiac pacing, defibrillation, mapping, and ablating for EP procedures

Acquires/maintains competency in various procedure room roles as needed for the department (circulating, monitoring, and/or scrubbing)

Applies principles for maintaining electrically safe environment for the patient and the healthcare team

Acquires/maintains excellent electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation skills for monitoring procedures

Acquires/maintains competency in the set-up and operation of various electrophysiology procedural equipment (ablation generator system, mapping patches, stimulator, etc)

CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) Primary Responsibilities:

Performs duties as needed for the care of structural heart patients in the CVOR

Collaborates with CVOR and Perfusion staff for continuity of care

Required Qualifications:

Prior leadership experience preferred

Prior experience with teaching/orienting new staff preferred

Strong organizational and communication skills

Inventory management skills preferred

Previous experience of patient billing/charging preferred

Bachelor’s degree in health-related field required

Current BLS and ACLS preferred

Radiologic technologist (RT-R), Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), and/or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) preferred

Available for flexible dayshifts per department needs between the hours of 0630 and 1730

Available for on-call shifts

On-call requirement: 1-2 nights/week in addition to every 4th weekend for all full-time and part-time staff or per departmental needs

Holidays per rotation

Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment required

Cath Lab, EP Lab, or Interventional Radiology experience required

IVUS, OCT, and FFR experience and troubleshooting preferred

IABP, Impella, and/or ECMO experience preferred
