  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred

  • Proficiency with data structures and algorithms

  • Significant experience with one or more, and familiarity with, the coding languages we use (e.g. JavaScript, Python, Perl, Java, PHP)

  • Git or other version control experience

  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux development environment

  • Adept working with MySQL or related databases

  • Strong background in web design and web development (full stack) preferred

  • Biology and bioinformatics computational experience preferred

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work cooperatively in a small collaborative team

Additional Information:This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Position Description:The DRSC/TRiP-Functional Genomics Resources combines wet-bench research, automation, and bioinformatics to carry out large-scale state-of-the-art functional genomics and other biological research studies. We are seeking an exceptional bioinformatics programmer to join the Bioinformatics team. We are seeking a candidate who will provide computational support to a dynamic research team by developing and maintaining lab information management systems (LIMs), online research software tools, and related pipelines that facilitate large-scale functional genomic studies. You will work collaboratively with a small team of biologists and programmers in a fast-paced environment.

Daily actives include meeting with bench scientists about their informatics need and feedbacks using our online resources, writing codes to build new and maintain existing bioinformatics resources, communicating with research computing group regarding the server and storage issues, giving presentation to informatics team and/or at lab meeting about working progress, writing manuscripts et al.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design, develop and maintain bioinformatics tools and resources for public use

  • Design, develop and maintain internal LIM (Lab Information Management) system for production tracking

  • Collaborates and consults with biologists to analyze problems, recommends technology-based solutions, and designs computational strategies for a project
