  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, user engagement, and service administration in a technology-oriented environment.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with both technical teams and research communities.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and data protection standards relevant to research computing and secure computing services.

  • Excellent organizational, financial, and strategic planning skills.

  • Commitment to staying informed about advances in research computing, secure computing practices, and compliance regulations.

  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities within a dynamic research environment.

  • License, certification or master’s degree preferred.

Position Description:We are seeking an Assistant Director for our Research Technology Core Facility, focusing on the administration, operation, and strategic development of the core facility in close collaboration with infrastructure and support teams. This role requires a unique blend of skills in administration, policy development, user engagement, and collaboration with various research technology and infrastructure teams. The successful candidate will ensure the core facility operates efficiently, aligns with best practices and compliance standards, and meets the evolving needs of our research community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning and Collaboration: Work closely with the Research Infrastructure Operations team, the DevOps and Platform Engineering team, the Research Computing team, and the Research Technology Support team to ensure the core facility's services are seamlessly integrated and aligned with the organization's research objectives.

  • User Engagement and Support: Lead outreach initiatives to engage with the research community, understand their needs, and promote the facility's services. Develop and implement strategies for user onboarding and offboarding, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for researchers accessing facility services.

  • Service Administration and Operation: Oversee the administrative and operational aspects of the core facility, including rate setting, account provisioning, and ensuring efficient utilization of resources. Work with supporting teams to ensure the facility's offerings are accessible, reliable, and user-friendly.

  • Policy Development and Compliance: Draft and update policies related to the use of the core facility, focusing on access, security, data management, and compliance with relevant regulations (PHI, FISMA Moderate, CUI, HIPAA, etc.). Ensure policies are communicated effectively to users and that compliance is monitored and maintained.

  • Quality Assurance and User Satisfaction: Implement quality assurance measures to maintain high standards of service. Collect and analyze user feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance user satisfaction and facility performance.

  • Financial Management and Sustainability: Manage the financial aspects of the core facility, including developing and adjusting service rates, managing budgets, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the facility's services.

  • Collaborative Leadership and Team Engagement: Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the core facility team and in interactions with other research technology and infrastructure teams. Encourage knowledge sharing, professional development, and cross-team initiatives to enhance service offerings.

  • Other duties as assigned.
