  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.

  • Needs to be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and handle complex and confidential information with discretion.

Additional Information:This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.

Position Description:

As department leader, the Assistant Director of Research Administration brings to the position extensive experience with the grant-making cycle and the ability to design, implement and monitor workflow processes and procedures. The ADRA will also be responsible for helping to build internal competencies and confidence of the grants managers within the department. The Assistant Director of Research Administration is responsible for providing technical expertise for both pre- and post-award grants management in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment.

We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal communication skills. The Assistant Director of Research Administration will partner with the faculty in applying for potential funding opportunities. They will review all

pre-award submissions prior to signing off by the department manager. They will interpret and advise research staff and Faculty on the university, federal and sponsor policies and guidelines relating to research administration. They will be responsible for generating and providing pre- and post-award financial metrics and analysis to Faculty and department managers. They will have signing authority for department standard grants and subcontracts.

They will work in the department leadership to develop and implement departmental grants management training and coordinate the training of new hires, including documentation and implementation of departmental best practices. They will serve as direct supervisor for 2 business office staff members.
