General Note: The fundamental duties of the part-time lab instructor will be to assist, support and complement the fulltime lab instructor during all of the scheduled lab periods. All of the following labs practice the theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom and allow the student to develop the requisite practical hands-on skill sets needed in the field. Diesel/Auxiliary Machines/ Machine Shop Lab Instructor: Diesel Lab Instructor should possess emonstrated theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on ability in the design, operation, maintenance, assembly, disassembly and troubleshooting of Westerbeke 40 series four-stroke engines and Detroit 71 series two-stroke engines. Auxiliary Machines lab instructor should possess demonstrated and practical hands-on ability of auxiliary power plant essential equipment including pumps, heat exchangers, valves and pneumatic controls. Must be able to use tools and disassemble, reassemble and start-up engine and / or pumps within lab period. Machine Shop Lab Instructor should possess the ability to set-up, properly operate and instruct students on how to safely use a manual metal lathe. Any CNC experience is a plus. Electrical Machines Lab Instructor: Electrical Machines Lab Instructor must demonstrate theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on ability in AC & DC electrical circuits. Understand electrical fundamentals, AC & DC motors & generators and distribution systems. Analyze & perform basic electrical load calculations, power factor correction and the ability to parallel generators. Refrigeration Lab Instructor: Demonstrated theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on ability in the design and operation of refrigeration systems. Must possess at a minimum, a Universal Refrigeration Recovery License. The assistant lab instructor will instruct students in charging, evacuating, troubleshooting and performing system diagnostics of refrigeration systems using several different types of refrigerant gases. Electronics Lab Instructor: Demonstrated working knowledge and hands-on experience reading schematics, building electronic circuit boards, soldering, testing and troubleshooting basic electronic circuits. The lab instructor must possess the ability to supervise and perform structured lab exercises. This position may require the lab instructor to work independently of the full-time assigned course instructor. Other routine duties associated with each job posting shown above may be either added or removed depending on the needs or demands of the associated lab.
