Massachusetts Maritime Academy Engineering Instructional Laboratory Spe in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The School of Engineering has many instructional laboratories, including Auxiliary Machinery, Refrigeration, Diesel Engines, Steam Boilers, Electrical Machinery, Electronics, Welding, and Machine shop, as well as numerous training aids and cutaway machinery used in support of our mission to train marine, facilities, and energy systems engineers. The Instructional Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for the upkeep of these engineering laboratories and equipment, preparing these labs for student use, and other miscellaneous faculty support. Typical duties include ordering parts and consumables, making minor repairs as necessary, maintaining cleanliness and good order in the labs, controlling inventory, fabricating training aids and other equipment, and supervising student assistants. On average, the Instructional Laboratory Specialist will be assigned 15 hours of assistance in the instruction of labs. The Instructional Laboratory Specialist will also participate in the annual two-month Sea Term aboard the Training Ship Kennedy, typically during January and February, where shipboard activities include coordination, supervision, and instruction of first-year students using hand tools to complete simple projects. The successful candidate must participate in a random drug testing program. Qualifications and requirements: Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline. Hold relevant USCG licenses or certifications; current Merchant Mariner Credential preferred (QMED or USCG Engineering License) Eligible for Transportation Worker Identification Credential; current TWIC preferred. Applicants must have a range of practical skills. Ability to work independently. A team player willing to collaborate with faculty and other staff members. Preferred Qualifications: A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development and/or the modeling of inclusive behaviors. Three years of relative work experience. Salary: \$60,000 to \$62,000 The Academy offers generous benefits policies and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is exempt under the FLSA.
