Oracle Software Director in Burlington, Massachusetts

Job Description

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.

Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.


Oracle Hardware Development (OHD) is looking for a Director with proven technical experience to lead teams of OS kernel and driver software engineers working on Linux, Windows and VMware to ensure all key hardware functionality is working as designed and the operating systems and drivers have capabilities to use that functionality. Come join the team that works across Oracle Hardware Development, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and Engineered Systems divisions to deliver state-of-the-art x86, ARM and GPU technology.

You will direct projects that bring to life early access system hardware from the operating systems perspective. In particular, you will

  • Manage technology, people, schedules and resources for several concurrent projects

  • Facilitate cross functional collaboration with hardware, firmware, systems management and quality teams.

  • Deliver complex products on-time and with high quality

  • Facilitate the resolution of complex problems hindering normal operation of the system from the operating systems perspective, collaborating with our Oracle Cloud and Engineered Systems internal partners.

  • Interface with hardware partners, operating systems teams and partners, and I/O partners to drive requirements, to proactively plan for new feature support, and to drive debug and delivery of bug fixes.

  • Work with Legal on vendor agreements and third party software approvals

  • Be flexible in a fast-paced dynamic environment

Required Skills

  • 6+ years experience managing 8 or more software engineers

  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral presentations to engineering teams and executive management

  • Provide leadership, direction and strategy

  • Well organized and able to multitask between projects and issues

  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and debugging skills.

  • Strong understanding of X86 or ARM based systems architectures

  • Experience with open-source development paradigms

Desirable Skills

  • Operating System Kernel and Device Driver development in Linux or Windows

  • Familiarity with the hardware development lifecycle

  • Knowledge of PCIe IO subsystems such as NICs, HBAs and NVMe

  • Understanding of virtualization (e.g. Linux KVM, VMware)

  • Understanding of reliability availability and serviceability (RAS)

  • Knowledge of firmware/OS interfaces such as ACPI

  • Experience with geographically dispersed teams
