The Position

Working under the direction of a Senior Engineer, AHA is seeking a Design Engineer (HVAC) for our Boston or Burlington offices. The successful candidate will prepare engineering design concepts for HVAC building systems for moderately complex assignments. Project types include: Corporate, Academic, Science & Technology, Industrial, Mission Critical Civic & Entertainment, Healthcare, Historic Preservation & Adaptive Reuse and Mixed Use.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical / HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping and layout of devices

  • Make calculations using engineering formulas such as heating and cooling loads and equipment sizing

  • Consulting with Lead Engineer, prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems

  • Research equipment selection from catalogs, under direction of engineer

  • Possess general understanding of applicable building codes, consults with engineer regarding building code requirements

  • Participate and develop company design production standards

  • Promote and use company design production standards

  • Handle multiple projects with efficiency and accuracy

  • Receive and follow through with specific or technical instructions

  • Participate and contribute to a team efforts, exchanging ideas and recommending improvements

  • Attend client meetings, as necessary

  • Visit sites, as required

Position Qualifications (Required)

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical training/certification

  • One year experience with HVAC design at an MEP firm

  • Revit skills

  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical system design

  • Understanding and knowledge of applicable codes

  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical concepts

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and engineering drawings

  • High degree of analytical skill and ability

Position Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Bachelors’ degree (BSME or BSMET) or equivalent technical training/certification

  • Recent College Graduate or One to Three years’ experience in engineering environment or equivalent field of operation

  • Engineer-in-training

  • Skillful use and understanding of AutoCAD and Revit

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills and use of Microsoft Office Teams
