Reporting to the Director of the Library, this position manages the Children’s Department, which prides itself on the highest quality of service in a vibrant and busy department of the Library.
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Manage the operations and personnel of the Children’s Department; hire, supervise, train, and evaluate staff
Plan, conduct, and supervise programming for diverse age groups within the Children’s Department
Identify and conduct outreach opportunities, including local schools
Create and oversee the creation of content to promote services and materials related to the department
Make supervisory decisions in the absence of the Library Director and Assistant Director
Other duties related to the primary scope of the position
Recommended minimum qualifications include
Masters of Library Science or an advanced education degree with 3 years of library experience, preferably in a Children’s Department; or any combination or related experience
Computer skills and flexibility to adapt to constantly changing technology
Excellent customer service skills
This is a full time position, 35 hours per week.
Hours are Monday 9:30am-5pm, Tuesday 9:30am-4:30pm, Wednesday 9:30am-4:30pm, Thursday 2:45pm-9:15pm, and Friday 9:30am-4:30pm; the schedule includes one Saturday in a four-week rotation, from 9:45am-5:15pm with Monday off to accommodate. Opportunity to work Sundays and summer Saturdays as overtime shifts.
This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit. Salary is within Grade 10 of the BMEA contract.
Pay range starts at $37.35/hr with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $53.37/hr through annual increases, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits.
