Brockton Hospital Respiratory Therapist - Per Diem in Brockton, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Manger of Respiratory Care and the clinical direction of the Medical Director, administers and monitors prescribed diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care procedures to provide patient with assistance in breathing techniques to improve oxygenation, removal of secretions and/or improvement of respiratory status. Establishes own work plan and sets priorities to assure timely completion of assigned tasks in conformance with departmental policies and procedures. Refers unusual problems or issues involving policy interpretation to the Respiratory Manager. Acts as a resource person to coworkers and clinicians. Can assume charge responsibility when needed. Responsibilities:

  • Accurately completes respiratory assessments and provides prescribed therapies on a timely basis, according to the specialty area on an age-specific basis.

  • Provides prescribed therapies on a timely basis, on an age-specific basis, according to the specialty area and established department guidelines.

  • Evaluates and accurately documents result of respiratory therapy actions, on an age-specific basis according to the specialty area.

  • Accurately sets up, monitors, and maintains mechanical ventilation on a timely basis according to the specialty area.

  • Accurately completes respiratory assessments and provides prescribed therapies on a timely basis, according to the specialty area on an age-specific basis.

  • Provides prescribed therapies on a timely basis, on an age-specific basis, according to the specialty area and established department guidelines.

  • Evaluates and accurately documents result of respiratory therapy actions, on an age-specific basis according to the specialty area.

  • Accurately sets up, monitors, and maintains mechanical ventilation on a timely basis according to the

  • specialty area.

  • Communicates with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient progress and recommends changes in therapy modalities according to established department guidelines.

  • Demonstrates the ability to proficiently obtain and analyze blood gas specimens accurately according to established department guidelines on an age specific basis.

  • Demonstrates the ability to proficiently perform skin testing accurately, assess results and reported on a timely basis according to the specialty area on an age specific basis.

  • Properly maintains equipment with complete accurate documentation as required in all areas of respiratory care according to established department guidelines.

  • Monitors staffing, work and equipment room areas on a regular basis.

  • Provides helpful, accurate patients' family education on a timely and age specific basis according to the specialty area.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables within established department and hospital policies and procedures. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to assign and delegate duties in a clear and understandable manner. Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, other associates, outside agencies and vendors.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's Degree required. Must be certified by the National Board of Respiratory Therapy. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS) and NRP certification required. Must have current Massachusetts State License.

  • Experience: One-year experience preferred.

  • Certification/Licensure: Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) and neonatal resuscitation (NRP). Must have current Respiratory Therapist Massachusetts State license.

  • Software/Hardware: Meditech and Microsoft Office experience preferred.

  • Other: Can be Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist

Administers and monitors prescribed diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care procedures to provide patient with assistance in breathing techniques to improve oxygenation, removal of secretions and/or improvement of respiratory status. High School diploma or equivalent required. Must be CRTT and eligible for Registry (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy through completion of a minimum of an Associate's Degree. Registration is preferred. Must be certified in CPR. Must have current MA State License.
