Brockton Hospital Phlebotomist in Brockton, Massachusetts

Position Summary:
The primary objective is to obtain an appropriate, sufficient patient specimen that is labeled per laboratory policy in a professional manner with the least amount of discomfort to the patient.
Location: 110 Liberty Street, Brockton, MA

This is a full-time 40-hour/ week position
Responsibilities:
Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures on patients and identify and label specimens
Instruct patients on urine collection and timed testing (glucose / lactose tolerances / sperm counts)
Notification of inability to obtain specimen to receptionist and or doctor and the documentation of such.
Processing of specimen: logging, numbering, centrifugation and computer entry
Prompt notification of “STAT” test request and or timed test completion to testing staff and or laboratory assistant.
Adherence to laboratory policies (fire/safety/ OSHA/CLIA)
Inventory: maintain on going inventory of venipuncture and reference supplies
Maintain work area: clean, disinfect and dispose of biohazard waste per laboratory policy
Weighing and documentation of OBGYN patients
Draw “STAT” specimens in Doctors areas
Routine pick-up of specimens from Doctors areas (as time / staffing permits)
Maintain Patient confidentially
Dress according to laboratory dress code
Perform limited specimen testing (urine dips / occult cards) per managers permission
Communicate in a manner that promotes professionalism with patients, co-workers and staff
Assist in training new employees.
Must be able to work independently without immediate supervision
Must be able to Open and Close the Lab
Must be able to draw all patients including infants and children
Monitor and maintain supply levels for the site
Perform related work as required
Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience (Type & Length): Phlebotomy certification recommended but not required. Experience necessary.
