Raising Multicultural Kids, Inc. Diversity Leader in Brockton, Massachusetts

Raising Multicultural Kids is seeking individuals to serve as positive role models in PreK-5 classrooms in Southeastern MA as part of our Diversity in Classroom Leadership and Literature (DCLL) program. RMK programs are designed to help schools diversify their staff and curriculum and further our organizational mission of fostering anti bias, racially, and culturally competent communities across the Commonwealth. As a Diversity Leader (DL) you will be instrumental in making a positive impact on children grades K-5, as well as teachers in various schools. Diversity Leaders read to students and teach them about different languages, cultures, family structures, races, and families with varying socioeconomic statuses. Position Summary The Diversity Leader (DL) is part of a team of individuals from underrepresented and marginalized groups in teaching that visit PreK-5th grade classrooms to read diverse books and do fun activities with the kids relating to the story and theme of the books. The lessons are created for the DL?s by licensed teachers with input from individuals that have lived experiences of the issues we talk about in the classroom. All DL\'s attend up to 30 hours of paid training prior to entering the classroom and are scheduled to cover various classrooms for the remainder of the program over the academic year. Training begins in September and the program runs from Oct-May/June each year. - Be a positive ROLE MODEL. Help kids become more kind and inclusive. - EMPOWER KIDS! Help youth learn to advocate for themselves and others. - Gain professional workforce experience and exposure to future career possibilities. - Gain experience working with youth! No teaching experience needed. - Ample training provided. Core Job Functions - Ability to learn and work effectively in a hybrid structure (the program is in person, but training and some meetings may occur virtually). - Develop relationships with classroom students and teachers -Interest in learning more about the topics of race, culture, language, socio economic status, ability, and family structure (training will be provided). - Learn a variety of lesson plans (over the program year) based on elementary-aged books, watch tutorials of how to conduct each lesson, and engage students each week in a lesson through reading a book, discussion and fun activities. Qualifications - Commitment to RMK\'s mission, vision, and values, which includes an understanding of and dedication to social and racial justice. - At least 1 year of experience in at least one area directly relevant to the position: childcare/babysitting, coaching, mentoring, teaching, relationship building, training or working with children in any capacity. - Enjoys working with elementary aged children - Love of learning and curiosity about emerging issues. - Strong reading skills (books, presentation slides, lesson plans) - Comfort working working with groups and speaking in front of a class - Sense of humor and appreciation of colleagues. - Reliable transportation to locations without public transportation access is required. - Have consistent availability during part of a school day (between 8:30am-3:30pm - Pass background check Computer Skills: Access to a computer to review lesson plans, tutorial videos, and participate in online meetings.
