Department Description:The Voice, Speech and Swallowing Therapy experts at BIDMC are nationally recognized leaders, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of voice, airway, speech and swallowing conditions. Seeking a part-time Voice Specialist to accommodate growing demand. Coverage needed in Boston and Lexington.

Job Summary:The Speech Language Pathologists in this position are autonomously responsible for examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis intervention and discharge planning for the SLP needs of patients who have potential for functional impairments, limitations and disabilities and are referred for voice/speech/swallowing services. Position involves primarily direct patient care of outpatients with voice disorders.
Performing initial, pre and post-treatment voice evaluations.
Providing voice therapy and clinical management for patients with a wide variety of voice disorders.
Performing rigid and flexible stroboscopy exams.
Facilitating clinical throughput (obtaining patient history, pre-therapy counseling) and particpating in clinical research.
Master's degree in Communications Disorders required.
License Speech Language Pathologist Li required., and Certificate 1 Cert of Clin Competence - SLP required., and Certificate 2 Basic Life Support required.
1-3 years related work experience required.
Training in the use of acoustic, aerodynamic and endoscopic assessment procedures.
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Experience in vocal performance and / or knowledge of vocal pedagogy to treat our professional voice users.
Familiarity with performing / interpreting stroboscopy with the goal of independently performing stroboscopic examinations.
Familiarity with interpretation of videofluoroscopy swallowing exams.

Oral Communications:Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge:Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
Team Work:Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
Customer Service:Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
