Join our globally integrated team of dedicated indirect tax, unclaimed property and escheat professionals and you’ll have the opportunity to combine your technical knowledge and industry understanding to identify risks and sustainable planning opportunities for our clients. You’ll help us provide effective processes, improve on-going annual reporting, reduce attribution errors and costs, and ensure indirect taxes are handled correctly for our clients.

Unclaimed property represents a liability due and owing to another party. Most often, general ledger property held on a company’s books and records, which after a period of inactivity, becomes “dormant” and “escheatable.” Unclaimed property can either be tangible (e.g., safe deposit box contents) or intangible (e.g., uncashed checks) and represents a liability rather than a tax. There are reporting obligations associated with unclaimed property and these obligations apply to all organizations, regardless of industry. Unclaimed property laws can vary by state and this coupled with continuous legislative activity, can make it difficult for companies to keep up with changes in rules and requirements. EY offers a full suite of unclaimed property services in the areas of consulting, compliance and asset recovery to add value, increase efficiency and decrease risk and cost for our clients.

Our tax function is constantly evolving, and it’s here you’ll find everything you need to grow as we do. It’s all about taking on new skills and responsibilities as they arise and making the most of our dedicated mentors and training programs. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute your technical expertise and experience related to compliance, audit defense and consulting for unclaimed property and escheat services. Your key responsibilities

You’ll likely spend much of your time supporting client consultations and challenging the unclaimed property and escheat approach for optimal effectiveness. We’ll look to you to develop strong relationships with our clients and team effectively with internal resources. To make that happen, you’ll be encouraged to implement your knowledge of unclaimed property concepts and requirements. You can expect to be working in a highly collaborative culture, where listening to and sharing information with colleagues is an essential part of the role.

  • Contributing to client satisfaction by providing timely and responsive services and work products

  • Staying informed of current technical and legislative developments and effectively apply knowledge to client situations

  • Thoroughly review provided by client files, consider policies and procedures, and accurately analyze information; prepare quality deliverables, demonstrating practical approaches to the client's unclaimed property situation and arrive at appropriate conclusions

  • Exhibit an understanding of increasingly complex unclaimed property concepts

  • Participate in and contribute to achieving team goals

  • Qualifications

  • A predicted undergraduate degree in Accounting; graduate degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred or an advanced degree in tax or law; supported by a strong academic record 

  • A demonstrable plan for passing the CPA exam, becoming a member of the US Bar, or obtaining a professional designation from the IPT

  • Broad exposure to state and local taxation

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and verbal/written communication skills

  • Technical experience related to compliance, audit defence and consulting for abandoned and unclaimed property services

  • Performance and process advisory experience related to unclaimed property compliance

  • The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary

  • Access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites. A driver’s license is strongly recommended as ride share and public transportation options may not be available in all locations.

A competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The salary range for this job, in the US, is $70,000 - $125,000. Individual salaries are based on education, geographic location, and alignment to the market data. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid-time-off options.  Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.  You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial and emotional well-being.
