Boston Public Schools Turnaround: Managerial - Learning Lab Re-Engagement Coordinator (Tier B) (SY22-23) in Boston, Massachusetts

*This school has been designated as a Level 4 school by the State of Massachusetts. This designation allows districts to utilize the new tools granted in the landmark education reform law that was passed in 2010 to provide additional services for these schools. Some of these tools will allow for extended time and extra compensation where needed. English High School - Learning Lab Re-Engagement Coordinator Reports to: Headmaster The Learning Lab Re-Engagement Coordinator will work to re-engage and support those off track students. The Coordinator will monitor an Alternative Pathways Credit Recovery Program - The Learning Lab. The Re-Engagement Coordinator will support the existing work of our student support team and administration by focusing their work on students who have re-engaged in school through our blended model of class and online coursework. The Coordinator will monitor the attendance and progress in coursework of our overage and under-credited students and provide case management services to those students. Working collaboratively with our social workers and administrators, the Coordinator will work to build relationships with our off track students, providing a critical link to school and a supportive environment for students. This individual should be tech-savvy, have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by BPS’ opportunity youth, and have strong relationship-building skills. Job Responsibilities: Accountability for Student Achievement Works with student to create a plan to get them back on track for graduation. Assesses students' progress regularly Passionate and optimistic about their students and families Cultural Proficiency Actively creates and maintains an environment in which students’ diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected Parent/Family Engagement Engages with families and builds collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learning Keeps families up to date of their student's progress in the Learning Lab Meets with families both inside and outside of the school when necessary to re-engage them in school Professional Reflection & Collaboration Regularly reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development Seeks to participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community. Communicates weekly with admin staff regarding the student progress Participates in Intervention Team Meeting Performs other related responsibilities as assigned by the Headmaster QUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED: Education: High School Diploma Strong Computer skill set Commitment to work with students who are off-track from graduating Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment Boston Residency Requirement QUALIFICATIONSPREFERRED: Education: Bachelor's degree Experience working in urban schools. Salaries are listed by Unions and Grade/Step. NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement as well as U.S. citizenship. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
