Manulife Treasury Analyst in Boston, Massachusetts

The opportunity

The Treasury & Portfolio Services Team (TPS) is a group of financial professionals within the Fund Administration department. The team supports portfolio operations for the John Hancock Group of Funds. The responsibilities of the team include but are not limited to oversight of the Funds’ net asset value (NAV) calculation, the calculation of Fund distributions, facilitating Fund events, cash management functions, reviews ensuring closed-end Fund compliance, and accounting oversight and guidance. The TPS Analyst operates within a team environment and is responsible for completion of daily and periodic deliverables. The Analyst also provides support on ad hoc projects and is expected to interface with internal colleagues, senior management, and external service providers, when required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the oversight of various services provided by the Funds’ service providers (including sub-advisers, custodian banks, line of credit providers and transfer agents).

  • Understand and analyze fund accounting activities related to the NAV calculation. Monitor and analyze impacting movements to the Funds’ NAVs.

  • Prepare the review and analysis of reconciliations provided by the Sub-Advisers and Custodian Banks, including derivative, position, and cash reconciliations.

  • Analysis of Fund derivative exposure.

  • Engage in all aspects of Fund liquidity / cash management, such as overdraft monitoring, line of credit usage, and Interfund lending.

  • Assist in the calculation, analysis, and execution of the income distributions for the Funds. Prepare relevant materials in support of the Dividend Committee.

  • Assist in ensuring adherence to various regulatory requirements as it relates to the Undertakings for Collective Investments in Transferable Securities (UCITS Funds) platform.

  • Monitor the operations of programs specific to Closed-end Funds such as shelf offerings and Closed-end Fund leverage.

  • Provide oversight support for the (broker) commission recapture program.

  • Prepare documentation required to facilitate foreign market trading, foreign account maintenance, and foreign tax relief.

  • Engage in the Fund launch/merger/liquidation process.

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly Board of Trustees materials, and/or presentations for senior management.

  • Provide support for various committees, such as the Complex Securities Committee, the Dividend Committee and the Risk and Investment Operations Committee.

  • Follow documented procedures and policies to complete objectives. Identify updates when appropriate in order to continue to ensure accuracy, relevance, and compliance.

  • Utilize technology to help identify efficiency improvements within the TPS team.

  • Provide support during internal and external audits.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field of study.

  • At least two years of experience in a fund accounting and/or fund administration environment with progressive increase in responsibilities.

  • Strong technical, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and verbal/written communication skills.

  • Strong business writing skills preferred.

  • Working understanding of the investment management industry and a strong desire to acquire additional industry knowledge.

  • Familiarity and comfort with core accounting principles.

  • Ability to learn new concepts and a strong desire to acquire additional knowledge.

  • Ability to adhere to procedures and controls.

  • Proven ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience to identify and help generate improvements in operational efficiency.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer applications (particularly Microsoft Excel).

Salary range is expected to be between

$58,875.00 USD - $98,125.00 USD
