Over 12,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. Job Summary:

Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) is seeking a team-oriented Systems Engineer who will creatively explore, implement, and maintain technologies that will support BHCHP’s justice-oriented mission. The Systems Engineer is an integral member of the Information Systems Department. In this role you will be responsible, as part of a team, for supporting and developing BHCHP’s IT infrastructure including Office365 administration, networking, virtualization, servers, backup & recovery.  You will be called upon to execute all tasks and duties with a focus on customer service, best practices, fiscal responsibility, security, and reliability.

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday                

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation and troubleshooting of multiple systems including but not limited to : MS Active Directory, Office365/Exchange, routing , switching, LAN , WAN , VPN, web filter i ng & security, network secur i ty systems (IPS , OLP, firewalls, antima l ware , ant i virus, access control , SIEM, MOM ), virtual i zation (apps , server, and des k top) , SaaS, cloud infrastructure; manage the day-to-day operation of VMware environment including updates, backups, performance, SAN, and network.

  • Participate in the design and implementation of infrastructure for supporting secure, reliable access to network resources and business applications from all BHCHP sites including remote sites; maintain infrastructure services and implement new technology systems.

  • Maintain an IT environment compliant with HIPAA privacy regulations and other internal and external control procedures.

  • Identify areas for improvement, especially with streamlining and automation of common IT tasks; assist the help desk as a third-tier support resource; be a technical resource for short- and long-range IT planning.

  • Participate in rotational on-call duties.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in security, computer information systems, information technology, or an appropriate combination of education and experience.

  • Proven experience as a systems engineer or similar role supporting multiple technologies in a complex environment; health care IT experience preferred but not required.

  • In-dept knowledge of Microsoft Office365, Windows networking and server administration, Active Directory, MS Exchange administration; experience with Citrix and VMWare virtualization technologies; advanced network skills including experience with current WAN technologies, routing & switching concepts, network access controls, monitoring & logging, and wired & wireless standards; experience in configuring and managing firewalls, routers, and switches; experience with enterprise virus and malware scanning, and general network monitoring; familiarity with IP SAN and knowledge of data replication and backup best practices.

  • Experience working collaboratively on IT projects across organizations and/or sites; understanding of cyber security best practices; ability to respond to evolving and sometimes urgent organizational needs with flexibility and a positive attitude; outstanding customer service skills.
