Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Systems Engineer - Infrastructure in Boston, Massachusetts

Administers, directs and integrates the organization’s networks in a multiple platform, protocol and operating system environment. Maintain network hardware and software. Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, implements, and supports data center infrastructure hardware

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other system problems, and replace defective components when necessary.

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.

  • Document Data Center environments and procedures

  • Ability to Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.

  • Ability to work closely and coordinate with network and administrative groups on multiple levels.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelors degree required, MS preferred in Computer Science or related field and or 6-9 years relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

  • May provide workflow direction to subordinates and serve as a mentor to junior staff.

  • Ability to travel between data center locations

  • Performs primary duties as above independently and has progressed to performing more advanced skillsets as directed

Qualifications – Preferred

  • Basic/Intermediate networking configuration/troubleshooting

  • Experience with Various Linux distributions (RedHat/Centos/Rocky/Ubuntu)

  • Experience with Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows 10/11, Server 2019/2022/2025)

  • Virtual Machine (VMWare/Proxmox/KVM) experience preferred

  • Scripting experience (Python/Bash/PowerShell/Perl) preferred

  • Experience supporting a research environment preferred
