Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking an electrical engineer to work as a Substation Project Engineer and Area Lead (Supervisor) in our Boston office located in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Grow and manage relationships with alliance clients.

  • Mentor less experienced staff in substation project execution.

  • Serve as the direct supervisor for a portion of the Foxborough substation department staff under the supervision of the current Area Lead with the overall goal to transition to hold all responsibilities of the Area Lead of the Department. Responsibilities include developing performance reviews, approving timecards, managing workload of direct reports, recruiting and training new employees, and forecasting and managing financial performance of the department under the supervision of the Department Manager.

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.

  • Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.

  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices.

  • Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS in Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS in Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or ability to obtain within one year.

  • Experience in 15kV through 345kV physical and electrical substation design, and IEEE/ANSI standards.

  • Experience managing small project teams.

  • Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to quality.

  • Ten or more years experience in utility substation design is preferred.

  • Experience with, and established positive relationships with, local clients.

  • Experience in 345kV through 500 kV substation design.

  • Experience with supervision of technical staff.

  • Experience with developing annual financial forecasts and managing the financial performance of a consulting engineering group.
