What you’ll do here:

Reporting to Sr Director, Finance within the Higher Ed Strategy organization, the Strategy Analyst helps lead critical strategic and analytics-focused initiatives across the corporation, focused on driving our growth agenda via advanced analytics and data modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and supports analysis in key strategic topics (examples of work: driver-based forecasting, key commercial initiative modeling, internal YoY business drivers analysis, dashboarding)

  • Provides strategy recommendations based analysis

  • Presents findings to senior management and prepares documentation for Board of Directors

  • Works cross-functionally with internal teams while bolstering work with relevant internal data analysis to provide holistic recommendations

  • Provides analysis on new and proposed commercial models

  • Drives analysis and thought leadership on improving our overall services to our customers to ensure Cengage remains best in class and adjusts to the evolution of our digital product offering

  • Supports the financial and strategic evaluation of corporate development opportunities

  • Functions as team member in a variety of strategy and business development projects, including emerging business opportunities

  • Go-to data and knowledge resource for other Higher Ed teams (Marketing, Sales, etc.)

  • Participates in other duties as needed to meet the goals of the team

Skills you will need here:

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Previous management consulting, business development, strategic finance, product development or other quantitative/analytical experience

  • Strong analytical capabilities and previous experience developing data-analytics

  • Strong writing and verbal presentation skills, enabling preparation and presentation of information and recommendations to a broad and diverse audience

  • Experience with SQL

  • Other advantageous experience: Python, R/SPSS, PowerPivot, Snowflake, Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, web scraping

  • Strong knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint to produce clear reports and presentations

  • Ability to work with structured and unstructured data

  • Strong understanding of causal inference

  • Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical teams

  • Interest and / or previous experience in education, software, and/or publishing industries a plus

  • Highly analytical, with quantitative intuition and approach

  • Enthusiasm to build business logic and detailed models through use of data tools and code

  • Comfort with and eagerness to tackle ambiguous problems

  • Highly collaborative with ability to influence others
