Job Description

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is a procurement and sourcing position that represents the University by establishing and maintaining selected strategic and successful relationships with internal customers, outside suppliers and other business partners. This position will perform routine to advanced activities in the purchase, receipt, verification and processing of purchase orders/invoices for materials and services as requested by end-users; and oversee and manage students who support the department with procurement and sourcing activities.

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist position maintains a customer service focus while collaborating with departments throughout the University; manages spend and influences the procurement activities for specialized commodities on the Boston College campus; and purchases certain materials, equipment, supplies, and services for departments in a timely and economical manner by applying approved purchasing techniques in accordance with established policies and procedures. It is in this role where the introduction of the strategic sourcing process and techniques are introduced where applicable in order to further obtain cost savings, credits or cost avoidance for the University.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $43,250 to $54,050; salary commensurate with relevant experience.


Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a strategic sourcing/supply management setting.

Experience in simple negotiations, team facilitation, RFP development and execution.

Project management knowledge, understanding of E-procurement tools and the ability to incorporate them into sourcing strategies and contract terms.
