Stipend Opportunity: ABA Specialist Trainer We are seeking current ABA Specialists to provide direct training ABA Specialists identified for the Training Program upon their interview. This support will occur within the current ABA Specialist’s contracted 7.5 hour working day. It requires a stipend as it is beyond current contractual obligations of ABA Specialists. ABA Specialists work a 7.5 hour day. Included in this is 1 hour of paperwork time and a 30 minute paid lunch. Direct services are expected to be provided during the other 6 hours of the day. (Source: ABA Specialist Job Expectations https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qLwwC8_GLBLRo2l4oax2-FI_4Jfo5ZSJaU-TtOBLst0/edit ) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The goal of the Training Program is to create an internal process to recruit and train ABA Specialist applicants who have limited experience with ABA, to develop their skill set to become proficient ABA Specialists. Staff identified for this program would otherwise not be offered a position as an ABA Specialist. The role requires a more developed set of knowledge and skills as well as the ability to perform these job duties independently. The Training Program is a 4-week, structured program where the ABA Specialist in Training (SIT), is paired with a mentor. By using a structured training checklist, consistent training from mentors using Behavioral Skills Training and frequent check-ins with a BCBA, the ABA SIT will become proficient at skills outlined in the training checklist at the end of the 4-week training period. Responsibilities: Trainers will use a Behavioral Skills Training approach, following this checklist https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cHtCRvUrNrn6MzrrKv9g-Ff4O-ES2VukRu49XvyhBww/edit#gid=0 . The Training Checklist aligns with ABA Specialist Performance Evaluation Each item should be introduced, given verbal instructions on the item, then modeled during a 1:1 meeting (no students). The ABA SIT will then role play the item with the mentor and, after demonstrating competency, will demonstrate the skill while working with the student. If feedback is required, there is a tab to document feedback provided, and the skill should not be marked as competent until the ABA SIT has provided a second demonstration of fluency. Trainers will set weekly goals with clear expectations for mentor responsibilities and ABA SIT responsibilities Trainers are required to meet with ABA SIT at least 2 times per week outside of student service time. Trainers will create a schedule ahead of time with ABA SIT. Trainers will meet with their Program Director weekly to review training progress and plan for the next week. Compensation: ABA Specialists will receive a stipend of $33 per hour for services provided that meet the above expectations for an approximate 4 week period. ABA Specialist Trainers will work with 1 SIT at a time. Trainers are required to meet with ABA SIT at least 2 times per week outside of student service time. Trainers will meet with their Program Director weekly to review training progress and plan for the next week. Trainers can earn up to 3 stipend hours per week per SIT. Qualifications - Required: Currently in the role of ABA Specialist for at least 6 months Able to describe and model best practices for others Able to provide clear feedback to motivate behavior change High school diploma, or enrollment in a degree-granting program, (or higher) in Special Education, Education, Psychology or a related field 3-5 years experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, students with moderate/severe disabilities or related disorders Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ABA intervention including data collection and report writing Demonstrated ability to accurately and consistently follow Behavior Support Plans and Curriculum Plan Effective written and oral communication skills with students, families, teachers and administrators Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook Demonstrated growth toward cultural competence Terms: The Boston Public Schools, in accordance with its nondiscrimination policies, does not discriminate in its programs, facilities, or employment or educational opportunities on the basis of race, color, age, criminal record (inquiries only), disability, homelessness, sex/gender, gender identity, religion, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, genetics or military status, and does not tolerate any form of retaliation, or bias-based intimidation, threat or harassment that demeans individuals’ dignity or interferes with their ability to learn or work.
