Charles Schwab Sr. Analyst, Investment Analytics in Boston, Massachusetts

At Schwab Asset Management, the Analytics Strategy & Development team pursues two broad goals: (1) understand the analytical needs of our partners in portfolio management, product management, sales, and marketing; and (2) develop tools, analysis, and insights to meet those needs and enhance key decisions. This is an individual contributor role.

To advance our investment analytics strategy, this individual will partner with the investment risk and performance teams, business intelligence, technology, and others. The role requires a strong understanding of investment concepts. Further, it requires a balance between communication skills and the ability to develop tools and present detailed analysis.

Strategy (approximately 40%)

  • Build relationships with stakeholders across the firm to understand their evolving analytical needs

  • Bring together best ideas from asset class SMEs and stakeholders across the firm

  • Promote best practices for presenting investment metrics and visuals, monitor industry trends

  • Build product knowledge and relationships with investment teams

  • Align with data and technology partners to increase our capabilities and understand technology roadmap

  • Create talking points and explanations on key analysis for internal stakeholders

Development (approximately 60%)

  • Develop tools for calculation, analysis, and visualization using programming languages such as Python and analytics software such as Tableau

  • Collaborate to design new value-adding analyses, using a firm-wide perspective to promote clarity and consistency

  • Promote ways to make systems and tools (e.g. Python, Bloomberg) more effective and accessible for internal users

  • Work with teams such as business intelligence, data, technology, and others to promote centralization, automation, and self-service delivery of information

What you have

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

The role will require a well-rounded skill set, including strong investment knowledge, technical problem solving, strategic thinking, and effective communication.

  • CFA designation is a major plus

  • 3+ years of investment industry experience with exposure to performance and/or risk

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to listen effectively, to convey complex ideas, and to develop consensus

  • Intellectual curiosity, open-mindedness, and willingness to consider different perspectives

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities

  • Sound business judgment and client orientation

  • Ability to build strong relationships throughout the organization

  • Technical skills, including:

  • Programming experience in Python or R, or willingness to learn

  • Experience with analytics/business intelligence software such as Tableau

  • Experience with investment analytics software like Bloomberg, FactSet, or Morningstar

  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel (lookups, arrays, complex/nested formulas, pivot tables)

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
