Red Hat Software Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Summary:

Podman AI Lab is an extension of Podman Desktop running on a local developer workstation, and providing an easy way to learn and experiment with Large Language Models. The set of AI recipes and models is maintained as a separate public repository in GitHub, it provides a collection of AI based containerized applications that can be used to quickly run and test models and prototype applications. The target persona for those applications is a software engineer, possibly in the early learning phase of AI and LLM use.

Podman Desktop team is looking for a senior Machine Learning engineer to join the team to help curate, maintain and extend the pool of AI Lab recipes, coordinate with the Podman AI Lab and other teams at Red Hat using the resource, and manage community feedback and suggestions on the repository.

This work will also be related to the development of the InstructLab project to build an Open Source based AI Approach to training Granite LLM.

The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative person with a passion to tinker and share AI applications and integrate feedback from community and team members into an open source codebase reused by various tools.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the code base of the set of applications, integrate feedback, fixes issues, the applications are most likely to be Python, Javascript Java based, and run through containers on Linux

  • Run experiments and test using the set of available LLM, to improve the applications or build better and new ones, opening the possibilities to the software developers trying them.

  • Collaborate tightly with the Podman AI Lab team to provide the integration of the applications in releases of Podman Desktop

  • Act as the upstream maintainer of the project in github

Required Skills:

  • Machine learning, AI, or deep learning-related course work or independent project work with evidence of completion.

  • Proficiency in Python, Javascript or Java.

  • Experience developing container based applications

  • Experience contributing in an upstream open source project.

  • Strong self-motivation and organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience as maintainer of an Open Source project.

  • Familiarity with participating in an agile development team.

  • Maintenance of an AI based application

  • Masters in Machine Learning (ML) / Natural Language Processing (NLP)

The salary range for this position is $104,080.00 - $166,320.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
