Veson Nautical, LLC Software Development Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

As a development manager at Veson Nautical, you will be responsible for leading a development team that designs and builds software for our rapidly growing SaaS platform. We are looking for a candidate with significant experience managing development teams, and at the same time we are searching for someone who is a passionate coder who will lead by example.

The Veson Nautical cloud is hosted on AWS, and we leverage a number of different programming languages including C#, C++ JavaScript and T-SQL. We run a global deployment across three AWS regions, with a geographically dispersed user base.

We are well underway with transitioning our system architecture from a monolithic deployment to a microservices based ecosystem. The successful candidate will have experience working with Docker containers, microservices and/or a loosely federated systems architecture. We are looking for a candidate with the ability to train up the development team to build software using microservices. This is an opportunity to lead by example, and to further accelerate our architectural shift.

You'll lead a team of talented engineers, who thrive on building high quality software delivering value in small, incremental units. You are passionate about continuous delivery, build pipelines and repeatable processes. The successful candidate will also have strong experience and a passion for unit testing as a means for ensuring we deliver the best possible software.

  • Previous experience working on a large-scale SaaS platform is required

  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing one or more software development teams is required

  • A high level of proficiency in any of C#, C++, JavaScript, Java, Python is required, backed by at least 7 years of hands-on coding experience

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies

  • Pragmatism and the ability to execute complex projects is required

  • Familiarity with design patterns for microservices architecture is desirable

  • Experience working in a DevOps (you build it, you run it) environment is a plus

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams and management to collect requirements, decompose user stories, provide estimates and meet deadlines

  • Track record of applying new technologies and learning new languages to solve problems

  • Excels at working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across all departments within the organization
