Amazon Software Development Engineer, Dash Cart Field AI in Boston, Massachusetts

Description

Are you interested in using big data, high performance computing, and visualization to improve the grocery shopping experience? The Field AI Data team builds the data infrastructure that supports the entire Amazon Dash Cart organization. We are looking for a strong candidate who can bridge the gap between business, science, and engineering needs. The team is fast moving and constantly developing innovative ways to enrich and analyze our data. Data governance, data modeling, and data visualization are all critical to our success!

Key job responsibilities

The responsibilities of this job are geared towards big data storage and processing. The types of data and processing vary widely, from structured json to large binary objects. As the Dash Cart’s central data team, we support many different users, from ML scientists who need pipelines for data annotation to business intelligence engineers who need visualizations to understand customer behavior. Below is a list of competencies that are ideal for this role:

  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Experience with AWS technologies like Athena, Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and ETL pipelines

  • Experience with data visualization and annotation tools like Sagemaker Ground Truth, Tableau, or Apache Superset

About the team

The Dash Cart Field AI Data team is a hybrid science and engineering team that owns the data infrastructure for all of Amazon Dash Cart.

The Amazon Dash Cart is a smart shopping cart that uses sensors to keep track of what a shopper has added. Once done, they can bypass the checkout lane and just walk out. The cart comes with convenience features like a store map, a basket that can weigh produce, and product recommendations. Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics or natural language processing
