Wolters Kluwer Senior Training & Development Specialist (Instructional Designer) in Boston, Massachusetts
The Senior Training and Development Specialist functions as an Instructional Designer and is an education professional whose job is to identify the performance, skills, knowledge, and information gaps of a targeted audience and create, select and / or suggest learning experiences to fill this gap. They will use strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills to bring together text, images, video and audio to produce learning for a variety of learning styles, with the goal of enabling transfer of knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitates meetings to gather information required for development.
Creates engaging learning activities and compelling course content
Works with subject matter experts to identify the target audience’s training needs
Collaborates on the design and development of assigned courses based on input from subject matter experts (SMEs), written materials, previous training courses, interviews, etc.
Sets instructional end goals and creates content that matches them
Visualizes instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product
Designs screen layouts, exercises, knowledge checks, graphics and interactions appropriate to the content.
Analyzes and applies trends and industry best practices, instructional, video and visual storytelling trends, and emerging platforms.
Provides exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
Creates supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role-plays, games, etc.)
Devises modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of the course
Works with L&E team, SMEs, management, consultants and related resources to produce draft and final versions of courses.
Maintains project documentation, including milestones, deliverables, stakeholders, etc.
Maintains project documentation and course folders
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
A 4-year bachelor’s degree in instructional design, communications, business, or similar or equivalent experience.
Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar relevant field preferred
5+ years previous working experience in instructional design, training and development or equivalent (e.g. minimum of 3 years instructional design experience or 4 year instructional design degree and 3+ years of relevant training and development experience)
In-depth knowledge of adult learning theories and instructional design models
Lesson and curriculum planning skills
Proficient with Authoring Tools (Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Rise, Camtasia) and Learning Managements Systems (Workday Learning).
Experience with Adobe Programs (Captivate, Photoshop, etc.).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio and video scripts
Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office.
Ability to multi-task and demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and flexibility in a busy office environment
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
- Experience producing and editing on-camera video productions a plus
- 5- 10% for team meetings when necessary (as US Government and CDC guidelines allow...travel post the pandemic)
