Red Hat Senior Software Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for enhancements and new products. Develop software and tools in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including servers, networks, utilities, databases, machine learning/AI, cloud-based and Internet-related tools and services.

*Telecommuting permitted: work may be performed within the normal commuting distance from the Red Hat, Inc. office in Boston, MA

What You Will Do:

  • Build an interface between different subsystems for projects and add capabilities to software that identifies and attests the state of system hardware, allowing hardware migration among various clusters.

  • Conduct software performance measurements and ensure that the software will work in a varied cloud environment and scale to meet the needs from small data centers to extremely large ones.

  • Provide team guidance as to what features and capabilities are needed in designs based on input from product management as well as software users.

  • Document and continuously conduct integration testing on new software to verify that future changes do not induce errors and provide guidance to the testing team.

  • Develop documentation as well as the actual software code, enabling others to consume it.

  • Develop and submit the specification of the interface to the appropriate projects for vetting and approval, addressing any issues to ensure a successful outcome that meets the needs of all projects.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and four (4) years of experience in the job offered or related role OR Master’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or related role.

  • Must have two (2) years of experience with implementing software features for systems and services in at least two programming languages;

  • Must have two (2) years of experience with completing designs for interfaces, APIs and systems delivered as products, demonstrations or proof-of-concept subsystems;

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with reviewing code and designs from other team members;

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with contributing to open-source development in public software repositories;

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with mentoring other engineers and interns including giving technical guidance about programming tasks that the team is responsible to deliver;

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with debugging complex systems and services deployed in the field;

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with product delivery workflows, including building, documenting, testing, installing and maintaining systems and services.

The salary range for this position is $135,304 - $211,180. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
