  • Provides consultation and works with teams to achieve sustainable change in patient care outcomes.

  • Works with leadership in building departmental and organizational capability to improve patient care outcomes, experience and value.

  • Leads system/process optimization including lean thinking and transformation; process and system mapping and risk assessment.

  • Provides project management through project execution, data driven strategies and interventions. Serves as a change agent by promoting team building, facilitation and communication strategies.

  • Coordinates and aggregates information for use by leadership in its decision making to focus patient care process improvement efforts.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as an internal consultant to the quality improvement teams and as a quality improvement Liaison and resource person throughout assigned department(s) on medium to large scale projects in accordance with Program for Patient Safety and Quality (PPSQ) and the Strategic Plan for Quality and Safety.

  • Collaborates with other hospital QI personnel and with other departments involved in hospital-wide QI activities to achieve desired results on improvement projects.

  • Facilitates, coordinates, and provides project management for quality improvement teams, strategic planning sessions, as well as other organizational meetings as requested and needed.

  • Act as a bridge and translator between the aims of clinicians and the requirements of the application specialists so that work products are well defined and efficiently delivered.

  • Prepares regular status reports on the progress of work teams to various internal constituents to keep them apprised of progress, potential barriers, lessons learned, and related topics; to include the timely submission of monthly reports for all strategic improvement priorities

  • Advises on tools, methods and criteria for monitoring care delivery processes and outcomes and evaluating effectiveness of changes.

  • Responds to requests for data from insurers and other external organizations. Participates in committees within the health care industry and in the community in order to collect and exchange information.

  • Maintains knowledge of current professional and industry trends and practices through participation in relevant professional/industry organizations and attendance at conferences and other continuing education programs.

  • Contributes to teamwork and selects, trains and supervises work of temporary support personnel as needed.

    Education Required Education

  • Bachelors Degree

    Area of Study Required

  • Healthcare related discipline, engineering, business or a closely related field

    Work Experience Required Work Experience Preferred

  • 2 year’s experience as a Quality Improvement Consultant at BCH with proven track record of results or minimum 4 years quality improvement experience in another complex medical center with similar record of results.

  • Experience with clinical teams, including physician participants is also required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience with quality improvement methodologies, tools (PDSA, FMEA, Process Maps/Value Stream Mapping, Graph selection, creation, and interpretation via run chart, control chart, etc.) and publishing related manuscripts is required.

  • Experience with clinical teams, including physician participants is also required.

  • Analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experienced-based knowledge.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
