Ascensus Senior Computer Operations Specialist in Boston, Massachusetts

Section 1: Position Summary

The Senior Computer Operations Specialist is responsible for maintaining Computer Operations productivity and taking appropriate action to resolve or escalate issues. The successful candidate will prioritize work and organize the functions and projects of the team ensuring processing deadlines are met and quality standards are adhered to.

Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Thorough understanding of daily production processing needs and requirements

  • Knowledge of business and partner SLAs as pertains to production operations

  • Monitoring of automated processing to insure successful completion of jobs

  • Maintain the batch scheduler, adding and modifying jobs to meet business needs

  • Analyze any failed jobs and escalate to appropriate teams if unable to resolve

  • Enhance and maintain operational procedures and standards

  • Maintain escalation procedures

  • Monitor system performance to manage system resources and maximize throughput

  • Maintain daily processing logs for status and issue reporting to business units

  • Enhance and maintain run sheets for all jobs as procedures and requirements change

  • Train associates to ensure thorough knowledge of all automated and manual procedures

  • Update processing status message daily at end of shift

  • Contact and work with external clients to resolve issues insuring SLAs are met

Section 3: Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer and/or Information Science

  • 2 years shell/Perl programming experience in Unix like environment

  • 2 years’ experience as Unix “power user” with ability to manipulate files and search for files and file contents in an efficient way using command line tools

  • Ability to work non-standard hours on occasion

  • Familiar with SQL and oracle databases

  • Understanding of file-transfer mechanisms (ftp, scp)

  • Understating of Public Key encryption (pgp / gpg )

  • Basic file manipulation, searching skills in a Solaris or Linux server environment

  • Scripting knowledge in bash, Perl and other Unix scripting utilities

  • Strong troubleshooting skills
