Boston Public Schools Restorative Justice Manager (Tier D) (SY21-22) (ESSER Funded Position) in Boston, Massachusetts

This vacancy is the result of temporary funding through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). The duration of the funding means the position is temporary and may last for one, two, or three years. Hired candidates may be excessed or non-renewed from the position for the following school year. Restorative Justice Manager The Restorative Justice Manager is responsible for supporting the leadership team in their implementation of restorative justice and anti-racist practices, including providing direct restorative services to staff, students & families and professional development and coaching for staff. Role Overview: Build a strong culture based on principles of Restorative Justice, Racial Justice and Anti-racism Examples of work: Model a relational approach to interacting with students and staff, work explicitly to build relationships within the community, collaborate with instructional staff on advisory planning, coordinate and facilitate circles and mediations. Lead the culture and climate team in creating equitable learning environments, building and maintaining relationships and addressing harm. Assist in developing the RJ Ambassadors and student council to uplift student voice and increase student engagement in leadership roles. Collaborate with other school leaders to assess and further develop implementation of the Restorative Justice Program. Examples of work: Assess needs, observe RJ implementation in the classroom and provide feedback to teachers, create metrics to measure RJ implementation and its effectiveness, create plans for further development of school culture and RJ student program. Provide coaching and professional development on classroom management, classroom culture and restorative practices. Examples of work: Model restorative conferences & circles; provide workshops on RJ components to staff, develop a collection of resources around culture to be shared with staff, meet with teachers and staff about school and classroom culture issues, work collaboratively with staff to address instructional practices that relate to classroom culture impacting student achievement. Build capacity in addressing adult:adult conflict Examples of work: Support restorative processes and mediations among staff in the building. Support the capacity by coaching leadership team in holding these processes among colleagues. Support conversations between parents, staff and students when managing student discipline issues and intervention plans. Examples of work: Contact parents to inform them of student behavioral issues; invest parents in behavior interventions, work with families to generate understanding of and participation in the Restorative process. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree (Masters degree preferred) Experience working with inner city youth in an urban setting Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to listen and promote empathy Project and/or program management experience Team Building skills Decision making skills Computer literate proficiency—internet, GoogleSuite, Microsoft Office Terms: Managerial Employee Tier C This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement. Salaries are listed by Unions and Grade/Step. NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
