69289BRJob Posting Title:Research Assistant I- Vakili LabDepartment:SurgeryAutoReqId:69289BRStatus:Full-TimeStandard Hours per Week:40 Job Posting Category:ResearchJob Posting Description:We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a full-time research assistant position in Khashayar Vakili’s laboratory at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Vakili’s laboratory focuses on liver cancer biology, particularly fibrolamellar carcinoma in addition to patient-derived liver organoid biology. Our lab utilizes various molecular and cell biology approaches to develop a better understanding of liver cancer biology with the aim of identifying novel therapeutic targets.
This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:
According to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, performs a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy.
Assists in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor.
Laboratory techniques to be performed include, but are not limited to: DNA, RNA and protein extraction; real-time PCR, western blots, immunohistochemistry, 2D and 3D cell culture, gene editing (CRISPR and lentiviral), and confocal microscopy.
Conducts literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques to the P.I.
Attends courses, lectures and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.
Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.
In order to qualify, you must have:
Bachelor's Degree preferably in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
Relevant research experience preferred.
Strong analytical skills, motivation to learn new techniques and high degree of comfort with scientific methodology as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
