69289BRJob Posting Title:Research Assistant I- Vakili LabDepartment:SurgeryAutoReqId:69289BRStatus:Full-TimeStandard Hours per Week:40 Job Posting Category:ResearchJob Posting Description:We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a full-time research assistant position in Khashayar Vakili’s laboratory at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Vakili’s laboratory focuses on liver cancer biology, particularly fibrolamellar carcinoma in addition to patient-derived liver organoid biology. Our lab utilizes various molecular and cell biology approaches to develop a better understanding of liver cancer biology with the aim of identifying novel therapeutic targets.

This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:

  • According to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, performs a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy.

  • Assists in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor.

  • Laboratory techniques to be performed include, but are not limited to: DNA, RNA and protein extraction; real-time PCR, western blots, immunohistochemistry, 2D and 3D cell culture, gene editing (CRISPR and lentiviral), and confocal microscopy.

  • Conducts literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques to the P.I.

  • Attends courses, lectures and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.

  • Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.

In order to qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.

  • Relevant research experience preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills, motivation to learn new techniques and high degree of comfort with scientific methodology as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
