The Prospect Development Analyst is a core member of the Trust’s prospect development team, responsible for conducting in-depth research on individual, corporate and foundation donors in order to estimate gift capacity. This role will capture, analyze and synthesize data from a wide variety of sources, including complex financial documents, and present the information in a clear summary. Will also identify and qualify new prospects for individual giving, corporate philanthropy and events by reviewing news and philanthropy publications on a regular basis.

This Prospect Development Analyst will:

  • Research individuals, corporations and foundations identified as major gift prospects. Analyze wealth, estimate gift capacities, and suggest prospect strategies.

  • Conduct routine and comprehensive screening and identification projects to identify and qualify new prospects in support of general fundraising initiatives, as well as specific analytical initiatives.

  • Prepare and present prospect lists, insuring quality and accuracy. Participate in CRM entry, coding, and reporting as needed in support of prospect research and analysis.

  • Understand and employ a wide array of electronic research tools (including Wealth screening tools, Lexis/Nexis, SEC filings, and non-profit tax filings, among others) and analytical applications, including Excel and Tableau. Train other staff in the use of research tools as needed. Remain current in research product development and upgrades, and knowledgeable of changes in research internet sites.

  • Maintain press alerts on leading prospects and donors and various topics of interest to Trust executives. Screen press sources in print and online for news of major gift prospects and donors and communicate relevant information to appropriate staff.

  • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of all prospect information. Understand and adhere to all confidentiality and privacy policies including HIPAA, and the APRA and NEDRA codes of ethics.

To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree plus a minimum of three years in a fundraising or direct sales business environment, experience in a major gift fundraising organization preferred.

  • Ability to organize and analyze complex materials, including large data sets. Must be able to work with sensitive and confidential information.

  • Must be able to understand and apply financial information and research methodology to reliably rate and qualify prospects.

  • Familiarity with the philanthropic community in Boston and the social networks within the greater Boston community.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities, prioritize duties and meet deadlines for requests.

  • Proficiency in database search methodologies, internet search techniques. Familiarity with database query, export and data management practices used with third party data processing.

  • Proficiency in the various applications within the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) in order to create profiles and create/maintain various database spreadsheets.

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools, (Power BI, Tableau) a strong plus.
