Boston Public Schools Program Director - BASAS 10 - [Mel King Academy] (SY24-25) in Boston, Massachusetts

Program Director Reports to: Headmaster General Description: The Mel King Academy Schools are totally separate, therapeutically-oriented schools for students with severe behavioral, emotional, and learning disabilities. The Elementary School serves students in grades K-5, ages 5-11. The Middle School serves students in grades 6-8, ages 11-15. The High School serves students in grades 8-12, ages 14-22. Boston Public School is currently seeking visionary and dynamic individuals to serve as educational leaders in our schools. We are seeking a highly motivated, exceptional, results oriented professional who is committed to high standards of performance and achievement by both students and educators. Responsibilities: Ensures the safety and security of all students, staff, and property, and the fair implementation of the Code of Discipline. Supervises and evaluates Assistant Program Directors, COSESS, Teachers, Paraprofessionals, and other staff in the school. With the Headmaster, plans school Instructional Focus, goals and objectives consistent with system wide goals and objectives and supervises implementation; plans and implements program policies, procedures and guidelines’ program monitoring adjustment and development; and staff training and development. Monitors and implements compliance with regulation of the Boston Public Schools, the State Department of Education, and the Mel King Academy Schools. Responds to requests for school reports. Participates in the selection of staff members and delegates responsibilities to staff members. Participates in Monthly School Site Council and Cross Site Instructional Leadership Team and PBIS meetings. Oversees maintenance of school records. Manages enrollment of students and class assignments. Develops and maintains student, staff, and building schedules. As part of the administrative team, participates in development of the budget and overseeing of purchasing of materials. Within each of the schools, researches, analyzes, and remedies situations involving interpersonal conflicts. Performs other duties as requested by the Headmaster. Qualifications Required: Licensure as a Principal/Assistant Principal, Supervisor/Director or Sped Administrator Master’s degree in education, special education, vocational education, social work, or other related field. Three (3) years experience successful teaching experience or related human services professional experience with special needs children or adolescents. Ability to manage behavior of students, direct the work of staff, administrative problem-solving and case management. Successful administrative and/or supervisory experience in special education or human services. Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents. Ability to establish a culturally competent atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image. Qualifications Preferred: Experience as a school administrator. Moderate special needs teaching license or license as L.C.S.W., or L.I.C.S.W., or certificate as a Psychologist and DESE License.
